He was born on April 4, 1932, in Tombia, Ekpetiama clan, in present-day Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He was the son of Mr. Eneruwe Kalaiti and Mrs. Kerenke Kalaiti, whose influence—particularly that of his industrious mother—played a defining role in shaping his early life and ambitions.
