Early Life and Family Background
Nathaniel Ingialasuogha Robert Yekorogha was born on August 6, 1934, in Nembe. He hailed from the prestigious Yekorogha House, a prominent lineage within the Nembe Kingdom.
His father, Late Chief Robert Latei Yekorogha, was of the Yekorogha House in Nembe and the Chief/Ite House of Okpoama, while his mother, Late Madam Lydia Bibitara Okoko, was from the Ikata Oruwari House and the Chief Ogbari group of houses—both respected families within Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas.
Education and Military Enlistment
Young Nathaniel began his education at St. Luke’s School, Nembe, where he studied from 1942 to 1953, earning his First School Leaving Certificate. He later attended Lagos City College (1954–1955) before making a life-defining decision to enlist in the Nigerian Army on August 30, 1955.
Distinguished Military Career
Starting as a junior recruit, Yekorogha rose steadily through the ranks to attain the prestigious rank of Major—a testament to his discipline, competence, and leadership.
His military career was marked by:

- Operational roles across multiple formations, including the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 82 Divisions of the Nigerian Army.

During the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), he served with distinction, contributing to the success of federal forces. He also represented Nigeria in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, demonstrating professionalism on the global stage.
In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the Federal Service Star (FSS).
After nearly three decades of meritorious service, he retired honorably on August 30, 1984, as a full-fledged Major.

- Facilitated the conversion of two wooden bridges to concrete bridges in Isuokiri
- Expanded the Isuokiri Town Square
- Renovated the Okpu (Mausoleum) and remodeled the Duwiesu-Wari
- Built a warehouse for community assets
- Commissioned a war canoe for the house
- Sponsored scholarships for indigent children
- Supported infrastructure development with assistance from Rear Admiral John Jonah (Rtd)
He also strengthened traditional governance by:

Chief Yekorogha was married to Mrs. Atonbara Yekorogha and had children. He also had other children from additional relationships. Despite his large family, he remained a committed provider, maintaining both financial stability and moral guidance.

A devout Christian, he remained a steadfast member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Nembe, where he contributed to the growth and development of the Anglican Communion in his community, while still upholding the traditions of Nembe Kingdom.
