Opening Summary

Jesus Christ (c. 4 BCE – AD 30), widely known as Jesus of Nazareth, stands at the center of Christian faith and history. Revered as the Son of God and Savior of humanity, his life represents the ultimate story of divine love, sacrifice, and redemption. From his miraculous birth in Bethlehem to his resurrection and ascension, the life of Jesus reshaped human history and continues to inspire billions across the world.

Early Life and Humble Beginnings

Jesus was born in Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph under humble circumstances, fulfilling ancient prophecy that the Messiah would come from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).

Angels announced his birth to shepherds in nearby fields, proclaiming peace and goodwill toward humanity. Wise men from the East followed a star to honor the newborn king with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Raised in Nazareth, Jesus lived a modest life as the son of a carpenter. Even as a child, his extraordinary wisdom became evident. At age twelve, he astonished scholars in the Temple in Jerusalem with his understanding of the Scriptures.

The Beginning of His Ministry

At about thirty years of age, Jesus began his public ministry after being baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.

During this moment, the heavens opened and a divine voice declared:

“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Following his baptism, Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness where he resisted temptations from Satan, demonstrating spiritual authority and unwavering obedience to God.

Calling the Disciples

Jesus gathered twelve disciples—ordinary men chosen to carry an extraordinary mission. Fishermen such as Peter and Andrew, along with a tax collector named Matthew, left their livelihoods to follow him.

These disciples would become witnesses to his teachings, miracles, death, and resurrection.

Teachings of the Kingdom of God

Jesus’ teachings challenged social norms and emphasized compassion, humility, and righteousness.

In the Sermon on the Mount, he taught principles that continue to shape moral thought worldwide:

  • Love your enemies
  • Forgive those who wrong you
  • Seek the Kingdom of God above earthly wealth
  • Practice humility and mercy

Through parables such as the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son, he revealed deeper truths about forgiveness, redemption, and divine grace.

Miracles and Divine Authority

Jesus demonstrated divine power through numerous miracles that affirmed his authority and compassion.

Some of the most well-known miracles include:

  • Turning water into wine at Cana
  • Feeding thousands with a few loaves and fish
  • Healing the blind, lame, and lepers
  • Calming a raging storm
  • Raising Lazarus from the dead

These miracles not only revealed divine power but restored dignity and hope to the suffering.

The Road to Sacrifice

As Passover approached, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey while crowds hailed him as the promised king.

During the Last Supper, he shared bread and wine with his disciples, establishing the sacred practice of communion.

However, that same night he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot for thirty pieces of silver.

The Crucifixion

Jesus was arrested, falsely accused, and brought before Pontius Pilate.

Despite his innocence, he was condemned to death and crucified at Golgotha.

Even in agony, Jesus expressed forgiveness for his executioners:

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

His final words, “It is finished,” marked the completion of his redemptive mission.

Resurrection: Victory Over Death

Three days after his burial, the tomb was found empty.

Angels announced to the women who visited the tomb:

“He is not here; He is risen.”

Jesus appeared to his disciples and many others, demonstrating that death had been conquered. For forty days he taught and strengthened his followers.

Ascension and the Great Commission

Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave his disciples a final command:

“Go and make disciples of all nations.”

This instruction, known as the Great Commission, became the foundation of the global Christian mission.

Legacy and Eternal Impact

Jesus Christ’s life transformed human history. His teachings on love, forgiveness, humility, and faith continue to guide billions of people across cultures and centuries.

From a humble birth in Bethlehem to his ascension into heaven, the story of Jesus Christ remains the most influential narrative in human civilization.

His message remains timeless:

Faith. Hope. Love. Redemption.

And for believers across the world, the promise still stands—that he will return in glory.
