His father, Elder Ebinimi Daniel Noafa, hailed from Ogbolomabiri Nembe community, while his mother, Madam Amuna Victor, was from Nembe-Bassambiri town. Both communities are historically prominent settlements within the ancient Nembe Kingdom of the Niger Delta.

His academic brilliance continued at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he was recognized as the Best Graduating Officer Cadet of the 25th Regular Course, earning several prestigious awards for his exceptional performance.

Determined to deepen his technical expertise, Noafa pursued advanced studies at the Royal Naval Engineering College in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in naval engineering.

His pursuit of strategic military knowledge took him to the Pakistan Naval War College, where his outstanding academic performance earned him a B+ grade, the first ever achieved by a Nigerian officer at the institution.

Further demonstrating his intellectual depth, his research work at the University of Punjab, Lahore, earned him a First Class degree in War Studies, a rare academic achievement that underscored his mastery of military strategy and defense studies.

Upon returning to Nigeria, he attended the National War College, where he once again distinguished himself academically by winning the Chief of Naval Staff Prize for the Best Research Paper.

His academic journey culminated in obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan, solidifying his reputation as both a military strategist and scholar.


Naval Career and Professional Service

Commodore Agia Daniel Noafa enjoyed an illustrious and multifaceted career within the Nigerian Navy, serving in several critical technical and strategic positions.

At the Nigerian Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos, he held numerous key roles including:

  • Supervisor, Electrical Services (1992)
  • Manager, Safety (2000)
  • General Manager, Production (2008)
  • General Manager, Planning (2009)

His leadership in naval engineering and dockyard operations significantly strengthened the Navy’s technical capabilities and operational readiness.

In 1993, he served as Base Technical Officer at NNS OLOKUN (now NNS BEECROFT), where he was responsible for maintaining operational efficiency in naval engineering systems.

In 1997, he was appointed Assistant Director, Combat Systems at Defence Headquarters, contributing to the development and coordination of advanced naval combat systems.

In 2001, he served as Head of Weapons Engineering aboard NNS ARADU, Nigeria’s flagship naval frigate, where his expertise in naval weapons systems was instrumental in maintaining the vessel’s operational capacity.

His leadership responsibilities expanded further in 2010 when he became Commander, Fleet Support Group (West), a position that placed him at the center of logistics and operational support for naval activities in western Nigeria.

In 2011, he was appointed Director of Research and Development at Naval Headquarters, where he played a crucial role in advancing technological innovation and strategic research within the Nigerian Navy.

Religious Commitment and Family Life

Beyond his professional achievements, Commodore Noafa was deeply committed to his faith and family.

He was a devoted member of the Baptist Church in Nembe-Bassambiri, where he maintained an active spiritual life.

He was also a loving father and dedicated family man who cared deeply for his four children, balancing the demands of military service with strong family responsibilities.


His Final Days

In the later years of his life, Commodore Agia Daniel Noafa faced personal challenges, including struggles with depression and related health complications.

He was admitted to the Naval Hospital in Lagos, where he received medical care.

Sadly, he passed away on 13 January 2016 at the age of 56.

He was laid to rest in his hometown of Nembe on 19 March 2016, where family members, colleagues, and members of the Nembe community gathered to honor the life and service of a distinguished naval officer.
