He was born into the family of Mr. Israel Kolawole Ehimaghe of Amonya, Otua in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, and Mrs. Alice Kolawole Ehimaghe of Ulegun in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. Raised in a culturally grounded and disciplined environment, he developed early values of service and responsibility.
Early Life and Education
Cornelius began his education at Uwa Primary School, completing his primary education in 1981. He proceeded to Edo College, Benin City, where he studied from 1981 to 1986.
Following his secondary education, he worked with the Central Hospital (Hospital Management Board) through the support of his benefactor, the late K.C. Idemudia, gaining early experience in structured public service.
He later gained admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he studied Sociology/Anthropology from 1990 to 1994. In pursuit of advanced knowledge, he attended Lapland University, Finland, earning a Master’s degree in Social Work between 2000 and 2002.
Professional Career and International Service
In 2002, he began his professional career with Glasgow City Council, Scotland, where he served for twelve years, contributing meaningfully to community development and social services.
He later worked with the London Home Office as a Social Worker under the National Age Assessment Board (NAAB), focusing on asylum support, resettlement, and the care of vulnerable individuals. His work reflected deep compassion for children and families facing trauma, displacement, and social exclusion.
Sports Development and Grassroots Impact
Cornelius Ehimaghe was a notable lover of sports and a passionate advocate for grassroots sports development, particularly in Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
As the Founder of the Community Sport and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative in 2015, he used sports as a tool for:
- Youth empowerment
- Education and literacy
- Social inclusion and peacebuilding
His remarkable contributions include:
- Distribution of over 3,000 kilograms of sports equipment worth over ₦30 million
- Promotion of netball, football, badminton, and grassroots sports training
- Capacity building for coaches, teachers, and young athletes
His benevolence was deeply felt within the Bayelsa State Sports Council Netball Association, where his support significantly boosted the development and visibility of the sport.
Through partnerships with organizations such as Lord’s Taverners (UK), his impact extended across multiple Nigerian states including Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Cross River, Taraba, and Lagos.
Humanitarian Values and Personal Philosophy
Cornelius was driven by a strong sense of responsibility toward humanity. His life reflected:
